📍 Main Plaza (115 Main Avenue)

DISTANCE: 10 miles
SPEED: Moderate pace 10-12 mph

Organized locally by SATX Social Ride and supported by ActivateSA, the Ride of Silence is held annually on the third Wednesday of May. The Ride of Silence is a global event that raises awareness among motorists, law enforcement, and city officials about the rights of cyclists to share the road. Participants ride in silence, maintaining a pace no faster than 12 mph, to commemorate those who have suffered in cycling accidents. This year’s San Antonio route spans approximately 10 miles.

Cyclists are encouraged to wear white clothing in memory of those who have been injured or killed. Many of us wear the names of cyclists killed or severely injured by a vehicle on our clothing. The Ride of Silence is a free ride that asks its cyclists to ride no faster than 12 mph, wear helmets, follow the rules of the road and remain silent during the ride. Following the ride, we welcome you to stay and visit with one another.

This year’s Ride of Silence will include remarks from guest speakers, including Councilwoman Dr. Sukh Kaur (District 1), Joey Pawlik of ActivateSA, Murray Myers of the City of San Antonio Transportation Department, and more to be announced.

Between 2021 and 2025, 34 cyclists were killed and another 110 were seriously injured. In 2025, 6 cyclists were killed and and another 15 were seriously injured. This year alone, 1 cyclist has lost his life, Mark Anthony Morales. These people are our fellow San Antonians, friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers – not coming home to their families or with lives drastically altered. “The Ride of Silence serves as a powerful reminder of the vulnerabilities cyclists face and the need for mutual respect on our roads,” said Jeff Moore. “It’s a moment for our community to come together in reflection and advocacy for safer streets.”

The Ride of Silence began in Dallas in 2003 and has since grown into an international movement, with events held in hundreds of locations worldwide. The Ride of Silence has been held locally since 2011, with SATX Social Ride leading since 2016. Learn more about this global movement here: www.rideofsilence.org. San Antonio’s participation underscores the city’s commitment to cyclist safety and the broader goals of National Bike Month.

Weather Statement: The Ride of Silence will take place on Wednesday, May 20 at 7:00 PM, weather permitting, with a rain date tentatively scheduled for Saturday, May 23 at 10 AM.
